Rhinocervs - RH-15

Rhinocervs is a black metal label based out of California and are affiliated with Crepusculo Negro - AKA Black Twilight Circle. The label almost exclusively releases their material on cassette format, much like Crepusculo Negro. They often release enigmatic untitled tapes that are what I believe to be collaborations between the two core members Odz Manouk and Tukaaria. While pervious Rhinocervs releases were predominantly black metal, RH-15 is not. RH-15 is a collection of dark ambient synth tracks, similar to the interludes on RH-07. Most people were disappointed by this release for that fact. On the other hand, I really enjoyed it. I thought this release had some great moments and created a really haunting atmosphere. My only gripe about this release is there is no fluidity in the tracks. With an ambient album, typically I would want it to play like a coherent whole. With RH-15 each track runs roughly 3 minutes, and is broken up. It plays more like a compilation of intros, outros, and interludes rather than a complete piece of music. I would not say this is a must have in the Rhinocervs catalog, but it’s worth checking out.
